CANDIDATE REFERENCE CHECK

INTRODUCTION

This pro froma canadidate reference check script will assist you in obtaining information from previous employers in respect of a candidate for employment. The script guides you through a serires of questions, which is asked to previous employers.

 
SAMPLE EXTRACT FROM SCRIPT
  • Call, thank the reference for his or her time and describe the basic functions of this job.
  • Inform the reference that responses are kept confidential and that a consent to release confidential information agreement has been signed by the candidate.
  • At the end of reference check, ask if there are other references that might be helpful for you to speak with regarding this applicant.

SOME OF THE QUESTIONS INCLUDED

  • Describe your working and/or personal relationship with the candidate.
  • What are/were the primary functions performed by him/her with your business?
  • How did he/she get along with co-workers?
  • Was he/she a team player?
  • How did he/she relate to clients/customers?
  • How would you characterize the quality of work performed by this person?

  4. How was his/her attendance on the job? Was he/she frequently absent or tardy?
  5. Please comment on his/her work habits regarding such things as organizational skills, initiative and problem solving skills.
  6. How closely was it necessary to supervise him/her? Could he/she work productively on his/her own without close supervision after he/she had been trained?
  7. Describe his/her verbal and written communication skills.
  8. What was his/her reason for leaving? (if applicable)
  9. Is he/she eligible for rehire by your organization?
  10. Do you have any additional comments or is there anything you think I should know about this person that might help me make a decision about this person’s fit for our position and organization?
